Porthpean offers courses at all levels from beginner to more advanced and on to instructor.
Our instructor training course is organised and timetabled to provide qualifications in multiple disciplines however if you wish to specialise or increase your experience in any of the sports listed then contact us on 01726 72901 or email us at porthpean@cornwall.gov.uk and we will be only to pleased to put something special together for you.

Canoeing & KayakingQuietwater paddling, surf, whitewater, coastal sea journeys - all of these disciplines go to make up the sport of canoeing. Our courses will enable you to take part at the level best suited to your abilities, and to build up your skills and confidence. You will be able to gain nationally recognised awards which recognise your personal performance and form the prerequisites for entry into the BCU/UKCC Coaching Scheme

Mountain BikingWe use a range of venues for this up and coming, dynamic sport - road, bike trails, and moorland tracks and bridleways. This course will develop your personal skills in progessively more challenging environments in preparation for entry into the leadership courses of the Mountainbike Instructor Award Scheme.

Orienteering"Cunning running "- this is a sport that combines navigation skills, decision making and speed over different terrains, both forest and open ground. You will develop your map and compass skills on different courses in the region before completing the 2 "Teaching Orienteering" courses administered by British Orienteering, the sport's governing body

ArcheryArchery is an Olympic sport and requires both physical and mental fitness. Your powers of concentration will be tested as will your accuracy over a range of distances. Having mastered the basic skills you will progress to the Leader Award of the Grand National Archery Society.

Moorland/Mountain WalkingThis element of the course will develop your navigation skills, using map and compass, on the moors in Devon and Cornwall. In addition you will receive training in campcraft and wild camping before progressing to leadership courses enabling you to lead groups in a moorland environment. There is the potential to progress to the full Mountain Leader award for candidates with sufficient experience
