The purpose of the Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme (MIAS) is to promote the safe enjoyment of mountain biking in an off-road environment.
The programme provides training and assessment in the technical skills and group management required by those who wish to lead groups in a variety of off-road environments in the UK, other than in winter conditions. It introduces training, experience and assessment in a variety of testing conditions in off-road country.
The MIAS scheme is recognised throughout the UK and by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS). Successful completion of assessment enables approval for the leadership of mountain biking in country parks, canal towpaths (Level 1). Progression to Level 2 depends on holding a mountain/moorland qualification and allows you to lead low level rides on recognised bridleways up to 600m in wilderness terrain.
